It can be frustrating to feverishly work on removing a stain, thinking you have succeeded, only to find has manifested a little while later. Due to something called wicking, this phenomenon commonly shows the persistent spots. Today, we at Palm Springs Carpet Cleaning would like further to discuss why carpet stains return.
What is Carpet Wicking?
The liquid travels up the fabric to the top when fabric is left in liquid. Eventually, the top of the fabric absorbs the liquid and shows the color should the liquid is colored, such as like in a stain. By placing a candle wick, strip of cloth, paper, or celery into a cup of water with food coloring, most kids will do this as a science experiment in elementary school either. It is the opposite of what we want in our carpet as neat as this is to watch.
What Causes Carpet Wicking Stains?
Below the carpet to create this stain problem, the stain has to settle deep into the backside of the carpet or in the padding. The fibers of the carpet will wick the stain from below and bring it back to the surface even after the carpet is completely cleaned when even after the carpet is completely cleaned. Before they soak the backside and/or pad below the carpet, stains that cause wicking problems are stains created by a large amount of liquid that cannot be quickly or fully removed. Since they are often created by higher amounts of liquid and are not found immediately one common type of stain that creates this issue are pet urine stains. Because most people add more liquid through the form of cleaners in an attempt to spot clean, cleaning these stains often makes it worse. More of it to soaks into the backing and padding, or even spread and become larger from additional liquids.
How Do You Treat Carpet Wicking & Get Rid of Recurring Carpet Stains?
The best thing to do is to remove as much liquid as possible using towels and fans when it happens. When using a liquid carpet cleaner, be careful and sparing. To help remove larger amounts of liquid, use a wet-dry vacuum. The only real solution is to have the spot professionally cleaned in the end. To sufficiently dilute the stain and remove enough water from deep within the carpet that the stain is removed and does not come back, high quality professional cleaning companies can add enough water. Even from the most reputable cleaning professional, a single cleaning may not be enough to fully remove the stain with very bad stains.
