How Do You Remove Old Mystery Stains from Sofas & Couches?
1) Hydrogen Peroxide. To the area in question apply a few drops of the peroxide after you fill an eye dropper with 3% hydrogen peroxide. The stain should be blotted. Thoroughly rinse and dry the area if stain remains. Use only with caution and after a patch test, and please note that peroxide has a tendency to lighten colors and can lighten the coloring of your upholstery if you use this method.
2) Vinegar Solution. In your choice of spray bottle or cleaning bucket, combine 2 cups of cool water, 1 TBS dish washing liquid and 1 TBS vinegar and mix the ingredients well. Do not let the area to be over saturated, apply the mixture sparingly, but adequately and allow it to set. With some rubbing alcohol, treat a cotton ball and gently rub in circular patterns the blemished area. Ensure the areas is completely dry if stain persists and before trying any other methods.
3) Ammonia Solution. Take 2 cups of cool water, 1 TBS dish washing liquid and 1 TBS ammonia and combine them with your choice of cleaning bucket or spray bottle. With a clean damp cloth, apply solution by sponging it on. Occasionally use circular patterns in a gentle rubbing fashion if the stain is resistant and needs to be slightly agitated work at the stain by blotting at the spot with moderate pressure. To remove any cleaning residues, thoroughly rinse the area with cool water and cloth. Especially prior to trying a different method if the results were not satisfactory, ensure thorough dryness.
4) Dry Cleaning Solvent. Make certain to following the manufacturer’s directions printed on the label if you opt to use a commercially packaged dry cleaning solvent.
